When it comes to brewing prowess, Redmond's brewers take a backseat to no one involved in the Central Oregon craft brewing scene.
Both residents and visitors alike come to quickly learn that true 'hoppiness' flows freely and deliciously throughout Redmond thanks to the passion and skill of local brewers who boast an entrepreneurial spirit.
Today, Redmond is home to a number of popular pubs and four homegrown craft breweries, including one that existed at the epicenter of Central Oregon's burgeoning beer craze more than 20 years ago.
Redmond's oldest brewery, Cascade Lakes Brewing Company was established in 1994 and quickly became known for such brews as Blonde Bomb Shell, Rooster Tail Ale, Monkey Face Porter and 20" Brown. Its success led to the opening of one of Redmond's most popular and established pubs in the heart of downtown Redmond, Seventh Street Brew House.
Cascade Lakes Brewing Company's popularity is such that its brand remains strong within even Bend's brew scene, with Cascade Lakes Lodge as its flagship pub outside of Redmond.
More recently, three other breweries have opened in Redmond offering their own distinct flavors and atmospheres: Smith Rock Brewing Company, Wild Ride Brewing Co. and Juniper Brewing.
Smith Rock Brewing Company opened in 2012 with eight guest taps, then quickly developed their own signature brews — flavors like Morning Glory IPA, Crooked River Brown and Over the Ridge Pale Ale. The restaurant and pub has become a favorite hangout known as much for artisan burgers and specialty appetizers as its beer.
Having brewed together since 2006, Curtis Endicott and Scott Lesmeister took a step toward sharing their products with the region by opening Juniper Brewing Co. in March of 2014. Already known for its variety and quality, Juniper Brewing Co. serves up their latest creations with names like Old Roy IPA, Jolly Black, Pat- Kat Porter and The Milkman Wit — from their taproom in southeast Redmond.
Also in 2014, Wild Ride Brewing Co. opened in Redmond offering not only a delicious selection of fine craft beers, but also an expansive (and recognizable) tasting room and patio that's become a popular downtown destination. Their Master Brewer, Paul Bergeman, previously brewed for Laurelwood Brewing Co. (Portland) and Kona Brewing Co. (Hawaii) and has the main goal now of brewing a craft beer for everyone’s taste at Wild Ride Brewing.
The Central Oregon microbrew experience is almost endless and if your adventures take you to Sisters be sure to stop by Three Creeks Brewing to experience their seven masterfully crafted brews.
